‘Janapada jaatre’ on Oct

A ‘Janapada jaatre’ (folk art fair) will be held in Kodagu on October 31, as a part of Suvarna Karnataka celebrations at Fort premises in Madikeri, said district co-ordinator Addanda Anita Karyappa.
Addressing a press meet, she said the fair aims at bringing together hundreds of folk artists and presenting a show on folk art and culture of Kodagu with a view to preserve the folk art and culture of Kodagu district.
More than 200 folk artists are expected to participate in the fair. They will exhibit folk dances of Girijana, Maleya, Panika, Dafaata of Kodava Muslims.
‘Janapada,’ ‘Kodava valaga,’ ‘Ummathat,’ ‘Erava cheenidudi,’ ‘Huthari kolata,’ ‘Bhoothakola,’ ‘Balopat,’ ‘Kurubara kolata,’ ‘Bolakat,’ ‘Dafaata,’ ‘kolata,’ folk songs, ‘Suggi kunitha,’ folk dance, ‘Kangilu kunitha,’ ‘Kodagu ajjappa there,’ ‘Panikara there samskrithi,’ will be presented. As many as 18 teams will sing folk songs.
As many as 10 achievers who have contributed for the Kodava folk culture will be felicitated. They include; Nandeera Poovaiah (Kodava folk culture), Mallada Muthavva (Kodagu Heggade folk culture), Patela Ningappa (Suggi kunitha), Panikara Mittu (Kodagu there samskrithi), Panieravara Nayak (Cheenidudi), Chimmi Kutta Bolli (Kembatti Janapada samskrthi), A T Thangamma (folk singer), Maleyanda Muthanna (‘Kodagu ajjappa there), Nellamakkada Sarasu Kaveramma (Kodava janapada samskrithi), and H M Rudrappa (flute player).
As many as four programmes will be held in the month of October and November as a part of ‘Janapada jaatre’. The Government has sanctioned a grant of Rs 1.30 lakh for the purpose. Artists from outside the districts will be invited for the fair in November.
